Today the boys got a bit more serious about fishing. Lures were tested, the optimal distance from the boat was experimented with, and—what can we say?—four fish were caught. Two were released… unintentionally. (I have to admit I wasn’t too upset about that, especially since one took the line while Mark was in the shower. There I was, standing with rubber gloves on, dreading the moment I’d have to kill the beast! The things you do for your little pirates… I quietly sighed with relief when I dodged that bullet!)
So, fresh Mahi Mahi it was—for both lunch and dinner!
As for the sailing, we had a lovely day and continued flying the spinnaker. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought we’d use it so much when Mark bought it two years ago!
Throughout the day, we heard reports from other boats about some pretty intense squalls. We saw the front approaching and turned west earlier than planned in an effort to stay in the small band of clear sky – which seemed to be working! This also led us to take the risk of keeping the spinnaker up through the night—helped, of course, by the fact that we have three capable sets of hands ready if it needs to come down quickly.
So far (knock on wood), it’s going well! We’re making solid progress toward Grenada… though there is still a looooong way to go.
