Day 7 – half way!!!

It was a fantastic day under sail! We covered another 170 nautical miles and, as we draw closer to the Caribbean, we’re seeing more and more sargassum in the water. Like a pearl necklace, long trails of this algae drift through the ocean, sometimes forming small “islands” that provide shade for both small and larger fish.

In the evening, as forecast, we spotted a few squalls on the horizon. By 3:30 this morning – so just a couple of hours ago – it was time to take the spinnaker down as a small rain cloud passed over us. There wasn’t much wind in it, though — so all was well.

Later in the afternoon we enjoyed a special treat on board: the band Blood Brothers made their debut performance in our starboard forward cabin! A short set, but a truly memorable one.

At the moment, the weather is proving hard to predict. We’re debating whether to head north or remain just slightly above our current course. One thing seems certain — we’re likely to lose this beautiful wind for a few days. Let’s see what the ocean has in store!

As I write this, we’re also celebrating our halfway mark. From here, Grenada is now closer than the distance we’ve already sailed!
