The arrival!

At 12:52 UTC we crossed the finish line in Grenada!
And what an arrival it was — pure, unapologetic magic.

After the traditional rum punch (and fruit punch for the junior crew) and the official photos, Nino stepped off the boat, looked around, and calmly announced that he’d be buying himself a house here when he retires. He’s six. If that’s not long-term financial planning, I don’t know what is.

We took the boys for a little stroll, and when they saw a tiny beach with white sand sprinkled with coral bits, and plants that in Germany only survive inside very humid, slightly suspicious greenhouses — they couldn’t stop smiling. In that moment they finally understood why we wanted to bring them here. (And for a brief, glorious second, all my mom-guilt evaporated. Poof!)

They officially fell in love with the place when the marina gardener handed them a freshly cut-open coconut. After that, Grenada could basically do no wrong.

Their friends from other boats arrived soon after us, and the rest of the afternoon was spent exactly as it should be: in the swimming pool, running around, or simply celebrating the fact that the ground doesn’t move anymore.

We, the not-so-keen runners, enjoyed swapping stories of heroic crossings and ridiculous squalls and sunsets that made us question every postcard we’ve ever bought. What. A. Day.

And now? Now we continue with a little holiday: exploring the island, floating in our happy bubble, and pretending we don’t have a to-do list. We’ll let you know what place we officially achieve once all the motoring hours (yes, we have… a few more than others — comfort, people!) and handicaps are calculated. But honestly, that’s just paperwork.

We were the first small boat to arrive (funny how a 40ft cat counts as “small,” but it does tell you something about the size of the other beasts out here). We made it safely, the only damage got fixed at sea, and most importantly, we finished with a smile on our faces.

So stay tuned… although it might be a few days before we manage another update. The rum punch is making it increasingly difficult to locate the correct buttons on this tiny keyboard
