to the Galápagos – day 3

Another day — another tiny tuna!

Three auditioned for dinner today: two on the handlines, one on the rod. Two performed impressive escape acts and earned their freedom. The third wasn’t quite as lucky and is now on ice — in a bag — waiting for a fishless day to make a comeback.

Sailing was glorious, and since the sea was in a cooperative mood, we bravely introduced… schoolwork. The boys’ faces suggested this was a deeply questionable parenting decision. However, I have a strong suspicion they secretly appreciate the change from their intense routine of Lego engineering, competitive playing, and carefully scheduled “just one more episode” negotiations. Thankfully, I had the foresight to download a few favourites before we left.

We also hosted another hitchhiker — this one clearly approved of our hospitality and stayed the night. Let’s see about the mess he leaves behind! Who would have thought bird poo can smell this bad?

With the wind shifting, Akuna had a wardrobe change — out with the spinnaker, in with Code 0 and main. At a 60° wind angle, she’s much happier (and so are we). The current insists on pushing us north, but we’re still making steady progress with minimal excitement.

And as seasoned sailors know: boring days at sea are the very best kind.
