into the big blue – day 3

The third day continued much the same… slow and beautiful, though with a little less wildlife than before.

We went about our day with homeschooling and watching Crocodile Dundee. Needless to say, the boys tried several times to “put me down” the way Mick deals with the water buffalo—and also made sure to demonstrate, repeatedly, what an actual knife is.

We also welcomed a new passenger: a Nazca Booby that stopped by for a short rest.

There was a bit of rain as well—but only a brief squall… just enough to keep things interesting.

The current still has a firm grip on us, so progress remains very slow. Interestingly though, I’m not nearly as annoyed by it as I usually would be.
Maybe it’s because the ride is still very comfortable. Maybe it’s because we’re not in a rally like the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers—there are no other boats to leave in our wake and no finish-line party waiting for us.

In the end, it really doesn’t matter if we arrive a little later than planned. I have to admit, being so at ease with it all is a very pleasant sensation.

But let’s see how long the comfort lasts… As I write this, the waves are beginning to mix a little. We’re riding with no wind over glassy water. Behind us, a big system is building and slowly catching up.

It might get very cloudy—and very rainy—soon
