Ahhh, the ever-changing conditions! And it all started with a little rainbow on the horizon! On Day 10, we found ourselves in a lull with beautiful sunshine. Who would have thought that just 12 hours earlier we were in wet-weather gear, hiding inside, and now we were doing everything we could to find shade?
How wonderful it is to be reminded that sometimes, even in the middle of the Atlantic, you can — and have to — take a break from sailing.
So we did. We went for a lovely swim, tackled thrilling activities like doing the laundry, took our little basil plant for a walk in the sunshine, the boys did some experiment with a bottle and soap, we generated heaps of water and power with the solar panels, and simply took it easy.
With the calm conditions, we also decided to give it a go fixing the bowsprit. Luckily, Mark had some Dyneema on board. With a bit of preparation, Mark jumped in the water, tied a few knots, and just like that — the bowsprit was up and running again!
After that, we pulled out the Code Zero and unfurled what had been a little bit of quite a mess. Amazingly, we managed to take it down without a single bit of damage the other night. What luck — and how great it felt to fix everything right out here on the open ocean!
Riding the wave of good vibes, Neli and Mark even decided to snorkel one of the Sargassum fields we’ve started to see drifting past. It turns out they really are like upside-down coral reefs floating on the surface. Neli captured it all in a fantastic video!
And as if the day couldn’t get any better, we finished it by hoisting the spinnaker again after dinner.
What more could we ask for?
