We dropped the lines at around 9:30 in the morning. What a strange feeling to know that the next time we dock Akuna, it will be in Australia.
The whole crew is pretty excited about finally arriving… although, admittedly, there are still quite a few miles to sail before we get there!
Once we made it through the pass in the west, the waves picked up quite a bit — as expected. Luckily, the conditions were better than we had anticipated. Nevertheless, a few hours into the trip, things got very, very bouncy.
With one reef in the main and a full genoa, we spent most of the day sailing upwind or on a tight reach — definitely not the most comfortable sailing conditions.
But we’re making good progress, and I’m hoping the waves that are supposed to come through late Monday won’t be too brutal.
As usual, the first few hours are spent getting back into the rhythm of sailing again — so for now, I don’t have much more to report!
