It’s a bit wild out here today… Soon after lunch, the wind picked up, and the waves decided to join the party. At the moment, we’re heading west because going southwest has become rather unpleasant thanks to the waves. Fingers crossed we’ll be able to turn again soon.

The conditions are also starting to take their toll on the crew. Uki is quite seasick, Mark is fighting it too, and I’m very pleased with my earlier decision to wear a Scopoderm patch. So far, it’s doing its job — which means I’m still upright and, more importantly, still in charge of the kitchen. 

Joe and Nino are fine, although they’ve submitted several complaints about the weather. Their customer service request has been noted.

Meanwhile, we’re sitting at a constant 25 knots of wind, with gusts well over 30 knots and waves coming from all sorts of directions. Main on the second reef, Genoa reefed too.

The good news: this is supposed to ease by Tuesday lunchtime. The even better news: Akuna is handling all of this like a champ.

The bad news: the card-game competition is still suspended due to extremely challenging operating conditions.

The very good news: I can still cook.

So clearly, we’re nowhere near crisis level yet.
