to Australia – day 3

Another day – another rainbow!

Against my hopes — and apparently also against my carefully negotiated agreement with the Pacific — the conditions became increasingly WTF.

Big waves on the side, a messy wind sea on top, and Akuna getting thrown around just enough to make sure nobody forgets we’re actually on a boat.

On the upside: we’re making good progress.

On the downside: Uki was really struggling until late afternoon, Mark is officially off duty, and I have therefore been demoted from Admiral to Captain. Apparently, this means I now have to demonstrate that I actually know what I’m doing rather than just giving orders from a comfortable position somewhere on the boat. Unfortunate.

Still, we’re going in the right direction, so at least that box is ticked.

This is, however, absolutely NOT the “last sail” I ordered. I had something considerably more civilised in mind. Perhaps the Pacific could keep the drama for another trip and let us have a few pleasant final days?

I have to admit, though, that without worrying about my sick crew, it would actually be a pretty spectacular sail. The mountains of water are impressive, and the clouds rolling in with the squalls are putting on quite a show.

They just have a slightly aggressive way of delivering it.

Let’s hope that I don’t stuff up my solo flight, everything goes smoothly and the entire crew is back on their feet tomorrow.

Because frankly, we still have food to eat before Australian Biosecurity confiscates it all.

And after sailing through all of this, I refuse to let a perfectly good salami die in quarantine.
